In a move to gain access to the US neonatal business, Draeger Medical AG (Luebeck, Germany) has agreed to acquire the Air-Shields infant care business of Hill-Rom Company, a subsidiary of Hillenbrand Industries (Batesville, IN, USA). No financial terms were disclosed.

Air-Shields is an important provider of incubators, infant-warming therapy, and other neonatal products. The company had revenues of about US$40 million in 2002. Draeger plans to consolidate Air-Shields' employees and assets into the Luebeck-based company, giving Draeger access to the US neonatal business.

"We will also be able to offer our North American customers comprehensive solutions combined with patient monitoring,” said Dr. Wolfgang Reim, president and CEO of Draeger Medical. "Clinical staff will benefit from these integrated solutions through increased quality of therapy and process cost reductions.”
