In a new alliance recently announced, Spacelabs Medical (Issaquah, WA, USA) plans to interface its patient monitors with new intensive care unit (ICU) technology developed by Visicu, Inc. (Baltimore, MD, USA).Posted on 06 Apr 2005
This eICU solution links a remotely located facility, staffed with an intensivist-led care team, to hospital ICU rooms throughout the health system via advanced software systems and telemedicine. The eICU care team can monitor and care for hundreds of patients, use software alerts to track patient vital trends, and notify clinical staff of impending problems, enabling quick intervention. Studies show that this eICU care model can reduce mortality while reducing costs.
The system includes advanced software alerts to avoid adverse patient events, on-line decision support with access to evidence-based care guidelines, outcomes tracking, and a database designed to ensure seamless transition between on-site and eICU care providers.
Spacelabs recently joined the Partners in Patient Safety program of Visicu, which enables computer hardware and software companies to work with Visicu's eICU technology to promote patient safety.
"By making sure our patient monitors are capable of integrating with this progressive solution, we demonstrate our ongoing commitment to open standards, greater connectivity, and clinical access to critical information when and where it's needed,” commented David Tilly, president and COO of Spacelabs Medical.
