Eastman Kodak Co. (Rochester, NY, USA) has signed a three-year agreement with 3G Ultrasound, Inc. (Ramsey, NJ, USA) making Kodak the exclusive worldwide service provider for 3G's Sonalis ultrasound unit used in surgical procedures.

3G Ultrasound has designed and manufactured the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration- (FDA)-approved ultrasound system that uses SimulView technology for precise targeting of needle placement in any type of therapeutic delivery in tumors via ultrasound imaging. The system will be available in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2005 with European availability planned for early 2006.

Kodak will provide all post-sale support for the 3G ultrasound's Sonalis equipment, including telephone customer technical support, field installation, and on-site equipment repair and maintenance. Kodak's Health Group provides a wide range of services for medical imaging modalities from all manufacturers. Specifically, Kodak provides maintenance, quality assurance and control, compliance testing, and around-the-clock call center support. This service agreement combines Kodak's expertise in medical imaging with the operational excellence and geographic coverage provided by its extensive services reorganization.

This mobile system is used in cryosurgery, brachytherapy, and laparoscopic cryosurgery. Breast applications are planned to be available with this system in 2006.
