St. Jude Medical, Inc. (St. Paul, MN, USA), has been named a Medical Device Manufacturer of the Year by the U.S. magazine Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry (MD&DI).

"The company embodies multiple strengths: good product development, support for innovation, straightforward sales and marketing tactics, and solid relationships with suppliers,” noted the publication. "At its core, though, St. Jude Medical's strength seems to come from a desire to both help and protect patients.” The magazine notes that St. Jude
"has one of the most diligent and thorough testing programs in the industry, as well as one of the most stringent codes of business conduct.”

"This recognition belongs to more than 9,000 St. Jude Medical employees around the world, whose relentless pursuit of quality and commitment to patient care reflect the essence of our business,” said Daniel J. Starks, chairman, president, and CEO of St. Jude Medical.

St. Jude sells its products in more than 130 countries and has 20 principal operations and manufacturing facilities. The company's portfolio includes cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), implantable cardioverter defibrillators (CDs), pacemakers, vascular closure devices, electrophysiology catheters, and heart-valve replacement and repair products.

MD&DI selected three companies for the award this year: a large public company (St. Jude Medical), a small private company (Restore Medical, also in St. Paul, MN), and a small public company (Fox Hollow Technologies in Redwood City, CA, USA).
