Encore Medical to Acquire Electrical Stimulation Line

In a move to strengthen its position in electrotherapy medicine, Encore Medical Corp. (Austin, TX, USA) has agreed to acquire Compex Technologies (Minneapolis, MN, USA) in a stock-for-stock merger valued at about U.S.$109 million.

Compex manufactures and sells a broad line of trancutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and neuromuscular electrical stimulation products used for pain management, rehabilitation, fitness, and sports performance in clinical, home healthcare, sports, and occupational medical settings. Electrotherapy is often used as a safer alternative to drugs in pain management.

Encore Medical is a diversified orthopedic device company that develops and manufactures a comprehensive range of high-quality orthopedic devices, including surgical implants, sports medicine equipment, and products for orthopedic rehabilitation, pain management, and physical therapy.

"This represents an important strategic expansion of our orthopedics rehabilitation business,” explained Kenneth Davidson, CEO of Encore Medical.
