First Taiwan Health 2010 Medical Fair Does Well

Taiwan Health 2010 (Taipei, Taiwan), Asia's newest health fair held at the Taipei World Trade Center on June 24-27, 2010, ended after four productive days, providing a stage for local and foreign exhibitors. Taiwan Health is an export-oriented trade fair exhibiting a broad array of medical equipment, products, and services. The fair was held in conjunction with SenCare (Taipei, Taiwan), the Taiwan International Senior Lifestyle and Healthcare show.

The health fair was sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bureau of Foreign Trade, organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), and coorganized by the Taiwan Medical and Biotech Industry Association.

Taiwan Health attracted nearly 140 local and international exhibitors, displaying various categories of hospital equipment, emergency medicine and rescue equipment, Diagnostic instruments, surgical devices, orthopedic and dental equipment, laboratory equipment, sterilization equipment, rehabilitation and mobility equipment, and medical services and publications. Sixty-eight percent of the exhibitors were manufacturers and 17% were exporters. Ninety-two percent of the exhibitors participated to launch new products. However, almost all came to promote their corporate image, as well as to meet old and new clients. Among the exhibitors those that found the fair satisfactory and those that thought it moderately so were evenly split; only 12% said it needed improvement.

There were over 44,000 visitors of which 523 were from overseas. Fifteen percent of the visitors thought the fair excellent, 65% good, and 20% said it was just fair. Seventy-four percent of the overseas visitors were from Asia, 11% North American, and 6% were European. About a quarter of the foreign visitors were from China, 17% from Japan, with Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, and Australia well represented. Significantly, 26% of the overseas visitors arrived from countries other than those already mentioned.

Participants opinions were sought, and Ben Chen, president of Gemmy Industrial Group and chairman of Taiwan Medical and Biotech Industry Association voiced his belief that given government support, the fair has good potential and provides a venue for local manufacturers to exhibit their products without the large expense of attending international exhibitions, "which aren't necessarily productive.”

Chang Gung Medical Technology Vice President, James Cheng, thinks the fair will put Taiwan on the map for medical equipment industry and draw the world's attention to Taiwan as a country with quality technology and manufacturing.

Marvin Sheih, general manager of Sturdy Industrial, said there is a quite a bit of potential in Taiwan Health, and suggested that to make it a success all companies in Taiwan must work together.

Richar Liu, managing director for Yueh Sheng Electronic Industrial commented on the size of the exhibition and said that it was, "quite respectable given its first year,” and added that there was a great potential in the future.

Anthony Chan, sales manager for Tyson Bioresearch commented saying the fair was nicely organized, and appreciated the separation of medical equipment from others sectors, which made it more focused and productive for the exhibitors.

Finally, a visitor to the fair had this to say, "It's great to be able to come to an exhibition and see most of the companies in Taiwan, all at one place. It makes looking for a partner much easier.”

The next edition of the Taiwan Health will be held June 23-26, 2011, in Taipei.
