Women's healthcare market in Europe is growing steadily and is currently valued at over US$917 million and forecast to reach $1.1 billion by 2017. These are the findings of a new report by iData Research (Vancouver, BC, Canada), a medical device, and pharmaceutical market research company. According to the research, an increase in digital breast imaging, OB/GYN ultrasound imaging, and female sterilization segments, has counteracted the negative effects of the global economic crisis. The implementation of national screening programs is driving the digital mammography market, which is expected to reach double-digit expansion by 2017. Posted on 19 Jul 2011
New technologies are also a contributing factor to the market surge. Technological advances such as three- and four-dimensional (3D/4D) real-time imaging enable easier detection of high-risk pregnancies and fetal abnormalities. As a result, the OB/GYN ultrasound market accounted for more than one-quarter of the total European women's health market in 2010.
Another growing market is in transcervical female sterilization, which is forecast to grow rapidly and reach double-digit rates by 2017. This is due to reimbursement policies, which are being implemented in many European countries.
