The Medical Fair Thailand 2011 (Bangkok) international exhibition recorded a 30% increase in exhibitor participation and a 50% rise in visitor attendance, compared to the 2009 staging.

The fair, held September 14-16, 2011, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC; Bangkok, Thailand), provided vital access for companies trying to penetrate the Southeast Asian markets, serving as a platform for medical suppliers, industry professionals, government bodies, hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. National groups and pavilions from Austria, Belgium, China, Germany, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan were part of the 328 exhibitors from 25 countries. For the first time, a Japanese pavilion was organized, featuring nine exhibitors. Foreign visitor participation increased by some 75% compared to the 2009 trade show, with 30% of the visitors coming from 50 countries other than Thailand.

On show were range of hospital, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, medical, and rehabilitation equipment and supplies, stretching from medical transportation, hospital infection control products, mobility aids and aids for daily living, equipment facilitating home and in–patient care, wireless health communication technology, prosthetic products, and autonomous hospital delivery robots. A series of seminars presented by exhibitors on topics that include robotics for healthcare automation, dynamic cell stimulation, and photodynamic therapy were also held during the fair.

“We are so pleased to hear all the positive feedback from exhibitors and visitors, and it goes to show that the exhibition is the ideal platform for the market and for exhibitors keen to access Thailand and its neighboring countries,” said Michelle Leong, project manager of Medical Fair Thailand.

“With its strategic location, appealing tourist attractions and excellent exhibition facilities, Thailand is a destination of choice for meeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition events in Southeast Asia,” added Gernot Ringling, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia (Singapore), who organized the fair. “Throughout the exhibition, we have heard positive reports from exhibitors and visitors, in particular about the business opportunities generated.”

The combined population of Southeast Asia exceeds 540 million people; an aging population, a longer life expectancy, and changing demographics will have an enormous impact on the need for better healthcare. In addition, with the increase in foreign patients, particularly in Thailand, many of the healthcare institutions are in need of new equipment, devices, software solutions, and better technologies to serve medical and healthcare needs. The 6th edition of Medical Fair Thailand will take place during September 2013 in Bangkok.
