ZOLL Medical Corporation (Chelmsford, MA, USA), a leading manufacturer of medical devices and related software solutions, will host the first Dubai Cardiac Arrest Symposium together with the Emirates Cardiac Society (Abu Dhabi, UAE). Posted on 11 Feb 2014
The symposium, which will take place on February 22, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza Dubai (UAE), will focus on addressing ways to improve outcomes in resuscitation in the Gulf and Arab states, and is expected to attract an audience of cardiologists, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, and resuscitation officers and directors from throughout the Middle East. The opening speaker is the chairman of the event, Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, MD, President of ECS, who will present “Cardiac arrest in the Gulf—Where are the data?”
In addition, leading experts in cardiology from around the world will address related topics such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) awareness; high-quality CPR in relationship to success; pre-hospital cardiac arrest management from pavement to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI); and ZOLL AutoPulse-facilitated PCI for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. A sudden cardiac arrest survivor will conclude the symposium with a presentation entitled “I shouldn’t be alive.”
“Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of unexpected death around the world, killing as many as one million people annually,” said Jonathan A. Rennert, president of ZOLL. “Yet many of these deaths are potentially preventable when high-quality CPR is delivered. Advancing resuscitation care could improve survival from this major worldwide health problem.”
The Emirates Cardiac Society is a network of all cardiologists in the UAE that works under the umbrella of the Emirates Medical Association (EMA; Dubai, UAE). Its mission is to educate public and healthcare professionals in reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease in the UAE. The ECS promotes health education within the community, raises awareness of health issues among the general population, and establishes strong partnerships with national and international health agencies and establishments.
