Zebra Imaging, Inc. (Austin, TX, USA), a provider of three-dimensional (3-D) holographic visualization technologies, reported on a partnership with the Zygote Media Group, Inc. (American Fork, UT, USA), a developer of in high-tech 3-D anatomy and biomedical models for animation and visual effects, to serve the medical and medical education markets.

Zygote has a very extensive library of accurate 3-D anatomy and biomedical models and has developed high-tech solid 3-D anatomy models for research and bioengineering. “Zygote is the golden standard in 3-D healthcare models and we are incredibly pleased to combine their content strength and our ground-breaking holographic technology to visualize complex anatomy,” said Chuck Scullion, president and CEO of Zebra Imaging.

Zygote offers customers advanced virtual reality 3-D models and 3-D services, including Zygote Body, a free interactive 3-D model of the human body that was co-developed with Google. Zygote models are used by medical experts in textbooks, software and animated videos around the world. Through the partnership, Zebra Imaging’s customers will be able to access and create 3-D holographic prints from Zygote’s extensive library of human anatomy. Furthermore, the companies will be creating a joint product range for medical customers, including hospitals, physicians and medical educators, as well as device and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Zebra Imaging’s holographic technology is used to show complicated data in a 3-D, glasses-free display and has been proven to provide a statistically substantial performance enhancement over standard textbook materials in understanding anatomy, particularly in terms of spatial relationships. A study, released by the US Army, demonstrated cognitive loads were lower using the holograms, lending credibility to the concept that it is easier to process complicated medical data from 3-D holograms.

“Partnering with Zebra gives us a new and innovative medium to display our 3-D biomedical models that we believe will have a significant and lasting impact on the medical community. Medical professionals will now be able to visualize human anatomy in true 3-D allowing users to communicate and understand complex information more effectively,” said Roger Clarke, president of Zygote Media Group.

Holographic printing of select 3-D models will be available immediately through both companies’ websites and will continue to be expanded through the partnership for both medical applications and consumer use.
