UPS Opens Multi-Client Healthcare Restocking Facility

UPS (Atlanta, GA, USA) has opened the first warehousing facility to offer comprehensive replenishment services to medical device manufacturers.

The 20,000 square meter facility offers a range of comprehensive logistics services, such as autoclave capabilities, instrument inspection, and surgical set replenishment, among others. Strategically located in Swedesboro (NJ, USA) in proximity to the UPS air hub at Philadelphia International Airport, the new facility is fully integrated into UPS's overall transportation and field stocking location (FSL) network, and provides an end-to-end solution for healthcare customers seeking increased inventory visibility and control of their supply chains.

The integration of the new hub with the 36 healthcare-capable FSL network will support time-sensitive distribution and efficient warehousing of products, providing access to over 80% of US hospital beds within four hours. The facility will operate under guidance of the UPS quality assurance and compliance program, and will feature temperature-controlled environments and same-day delivery services, features that will enable medical device manufacturers and field representatives to provide best-in-class service to their customers and better manage their inventories.

The UPS global FSL network includes more than 950 locations, and has been in operation since 1995. The network is utilized by multiple industries including aerospace, industrial, automotive, high-tech, telecommunications, and non-regulated medical device manufacturers. The opening of the new multi-client healthcare hub comes on the heels of recent acquisition of of Poltraf, Polar Speed, and CEMELOG, three European companies that specialize in the supply chain management of drugs and devices, as well as the opening of a healthcare distribution center in Roermand (The Netherlands).
