To reflect the integration of Coherent Medical Group, ESC Medical Systems has reorganized, forming three product and three geographical segments. Excluding smaller dental and industrial units, the company will be operating under a matrix organizational structure to allow the newly combined company to focus on upstream marketing, R&D, and manufacturing activities within product application areas. The three product segments that will focus on ESC's primary markets are the surgical unit, the aesthetic unit, and the ophthalmic unit. The surgical unit will focus on hospital and in-office medical procedures, including gynecologic, urologic, ear-nose-throat, and other applications. This unit will be headed by Robert Grant, executive vice president, surgical business. Grant was previously vice president, business development for Coherent Medical Group (CMG) and managing director of CMG's European operations.
The sales, marketing, and service functions will report to Lou Scafuri, COO and be coordinated across product lines through the following three regional units: the European unit (continental Europe, Middle East, North Africa), the Asia Pacific unit (Japan, China, and Hong Kong as well as distributor arrangements in more than 20 countries), and the Americas unit.
"The establishment of this structure and leadership team should facilitate a smooth completion of our integration efforts,” said Yacha Sutton, president and CEO of ESC. "We look forward to continuing to build our business with the new organization.” ESC Medical Systems develops, manufactures, and markets laser and intense pulsed light devices. Pending stockholder approval, the company will be changing its name to Lumenis.
