Alliance in Pulse Oximetry

An extension of a former partnership agreement now allows Medical Data Electronics (Arleta, CA, USA) to integrate the latest pulse oximetry technology from Nellcor (Pleasanton, CA, USA) into MDE's Escort Prism and Prism SE portable bedside monitors. Nellcor, now part of Tyco Healthcare, develops, manufactures, and markets products that help diagnose, monitor, and treat respiratory and anesthesia patients.

This latest Nellcor pulse oximetry technology is the same technology found in Nellcor's N-395 Pulse Oximeter, the company's latest standalone monitor. The N-395 features Oxismart XL advanced signal processing and SatSeconds alarm management technology, which are designed to reduce nuisance alarms, especially in motion, challenging motion, and poor perfusion conditions. The agreement also enables MDE to incorporate future generations of Nellcor pulse oximetry technology as they are released.

MDE manufactures patient monitoring systems for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient care. "This technology integration allows us to offer our customers a flexible, cost-effective monitoring solution,” said Robert Wagenleitner, product marketing manager for MDE.
