A strategic alliance to develop second-generation digital mammography systems has been announced by Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) and Hologic, Inc. (Bedford, MA, USA). The two companies plan to bring to market new direct-to-digital mammography systems offering improved imaging of the breast.Posted on 04 Dec 2001
The companies also plan to combine Hologic's amorphous selenium direct-to-digital mammography technology with Siemen's proprietary software in a dedicated workstation for doctors. This will be an image-acquisition console offering doctors a fully integrated approach to breast cancer detection. The workstation will be designed to improve workflow and patient throughput and will be able to integrate future digital computer-aided detection (CAD) applications.
"In understandable, grass-roots terms, it is the sincere hope of both companies that through our collective efforts, we will soon offer enhanced visualization capabilities for clinicians, thereby assisting in the early detection of breast cancer,” said Jack Cumming, president and CEO of Hologic.
