Sparta Surgical Merges with Shepard

Sparta Surgical Corp. (Livermore, CA, USA) has agreed to merge with Shepard Medical Products, Inc.. Sparta will be the surviving corporation.

Sparta designs and manufactures reusable and single-use specialty medical, surgical instruments, implant devices, equipment, and related accessories. Its products are used in operating rooms, surgery centers, critical care areas of hospitals, physician offices, and rehab clinics. The company's specialized devices include a complete line of microsurgical, oral maxillofacial, neurosurgical, and general surgical instruments.

Shepard Medical Products is a leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of a full line of infection-control disposable gloves to a broad range of customers in the medical industry. The company supplies premium vinyl, latex, and nitrile gloves. Its Eagle brand includes gloves for examination and for sterile surgical and sterile procedures use.

"During this period of threatened worldwide bio-terrorism, we believe a merger with a highly regarded and profitable manufacturer and distributor of premium infection-control disposable and biodegradable gloves is very timely,” said Thomas R. Reiner, chairman, president, and CEO of Sparta.
