Exclusive rights to distribute the SaluBridge nerve cuff in Spain, Italy, and Portugal has been granted by SaluMedica (Atlanta, GA, USA) to MBA Grupo (Gijon, Spain), a large healthcare distribution network in Europe. The nerve cuff has received the CE Mark.Posted on 07 Feb 2002
The nerve cuff, made from Salubria biomaterial, is a flexible tube that acts as a protective environment to create a conduit for axonal growth across a nerve gap for peripheral nerve repair. Salubria is classified as a hydrogel. SaluMedica says it is highly biocompatible and contains water in similar proportions to human tissue. In addition, it is soft and compliant yet strong and wear-resistant, which makes it suitable for an implant and other medical applications. SaluMedica is now developing a knee cartilage replacement based on the same material.
"The SaluBridge nerve cuff represents a breakthrough, allowing hand and neurosurgeons to repair nerve injuries in a much shorter time than current therapies,” noted David Ku, M.D., president and CEO of SaluMedica.
