In a move to be more responsive to the needs of its US customers, Jostra AG (Stuttgart, Germany) has acquired the main fields of business of LifeStream International (Houston, TX, USA), a US competitor. These will be integrated into the product portfolio of the Jostra-Bently Corp. LifeStream is a manufacturer of tubing sets for open-heart surgery. The company also produces oxygenators, blood pumps, reservoirs, and arterial filters.

Jostra is a major worldwide supplier of single-use products and machines for cardiac surgery. In July 2000, Jostra acquired Bently Cardio Pulmonary from Edwards Life Sciences (Irvine, CA, USA) and in 2001, the company acquired Polystan, a Danish company that produces equipment for pediatric heart surgery. With the acquisition of LifeStream, Jostra will have production facilities in Germany, Puerto Rico, Sweden, and the US.

"With the addition of the main business areas of LifeStream International, Jostra will be able to be more responsive to the needs of the American customers,” said Christian Palme, CEO of Jostra. "Being close to our customers will put us in the position to react quickly to meet their needs better than ever.”
