A portfolio of intellectual property relating to cardiac delivery devices has been acquired by Boston Scientific, Inc. (Natick, MA, USA) from MicroHeart, Inc. (Mountain View, CA). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The intellectual property relates to delivery methods and catheter devices used in cardiac revascularization to inject fluids into the heart. MicroHeart develops biotherapeutic agents designed to promote new vessel formation and protect against ischemia-reperfusion injury, which can result from interrupted blood flow. Boston Scientific says the acquired intellectual property will enhance its own portfolio of technologies to deliver drug or biologic treatments to the heart.

"The technology acquired from MicroHeart will enable us to expand our product offerings in the area of cardiac delivery devices to include a variety of delivery options for our current and future biotechnology and pharmaceutical development partners,” said Fred Colen, senior vice president and chief technology officer, Boston Scientific.
