Getinge Group to Acquire Heraeus Med

In a move to strengthen its surgical systems business, Getinge AB (Getinge, Sweden) has agreed to acquire Heraeus Med Technology (Hanau, Germany) and its US subsidiary. Terms were not disclosed.Posted on 15 Jul 2002
Heraeus Med Technology is a leading producer of surgical lighting systems and ceiling service units for operating theaters. In 2001, the company had sales of around US$52 million. It will be integrated into the surgical systems business of Getinge. Heraeus Med Technology is currently a division of Heraeus Holding GmbH, a precious metals and technology group.
Getinge is an important provider of health care products and services. The company's surgical systems business began with the acquisition of Maquet in 2000, a leading manufacturer of surgical tables. In 2001, Getinge acquired ALM, a manufacturer of surgical lights. The acquisition of Heraeus is designed to make Getinge an important provider of operating theater equipment.
