According to a new European distribution agreement, a bioabsorbable gel for the prevention of adhesions will be marketed in Europe by Depuy AcroMed, Inc. (Chagrin Falls, OH, USA).

Called Oxiplex/SP Gel, the product is applied during spinal surgery to reduce postoperative internal scarring, or adhesions. Adhesions are a leading complication of many surgical procedures. Oxiplex is a new polymer technology formulated for a variety of targeted medical indications and markets by FzioMed, Inc. (San Luis Obispo, CA, USA)(The gel will be distributed to orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons for use in spinal surgical procedures such as laminectomy and discectomy. FzioMed will manufacture the product and provide sales support and training assistance.
AcroMed is a leading worldwide supplier of spinal products.

"There is a great unmet need for an effective antiadhesion product in spine surgery,” said Ronald Haynes, president and CEO of FzioMed. "We look forward to working with our partner to bring Oxiplex/SP to surgeons in Europe.”
