Collaboration to Develop Heart Monitoring Device

A joint product-development project has been announced by CardioDynamics (San Diego, CA, USA) and Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands), whereby the two companies will collaborate on a new product combining the impedance cardiography (ICG) technology of CardioDynamics with the diagnostic 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) technology of Philips.

ICG provides noninvasive comprehensive data on the heart's blood flow characteristics, while an ECG gives data on the heart's electrical characteristics. Combining the two will improve diagnostic testing capability and provide a more complete assessment of a patient's clinical condition, say the two companies.

"We have long believed that coupling ICG with ECG would increase the utility and further drive the adoption of our clinically proven technology,” said Michael K. Perry, CEO of CardioDynamics. "Together, CardioDynamics and Philips will provide world-class diagnostic solutions to the cardiovascular medical community.”
