As part of a continuing move to divest its cardiovascular interests, Centerpulse Ltd. (Zurich, Switzerland) has agreed to sell its Vascutek vascular grafts business in Scotland to a Japanese medical device company, Terumo Corp. (Tokyo) for USD$170 million.Posted on 14 Oct 2002
Vascutek makes and markets vascular prostheses and products that treat cardiovascular disease. The company has developed an international distribution network. Terumo manufactures and distributes a broad range of medical products, including cardiovascular implants, that are sold worldwide. The company is focused on growing its cardiovascular business and believes the acquisition of Vascutek is a strategic step toward that goal.
Centerpulse is divesting its cardiovascular businesses and refining its strategic focus to emphasize the core sectors of orthopedic, spine, and dental implants. In September, the
company announced the sale of IntraTherapeutics for USD$95 million.
