A strategic alliance that will broaden the market for its oximetry products has been announced by Masimo Corp. (Irvine, CA, USA). Under the agreement, Shenshen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen, China) will incorporate Masimo's SET motion and low perfusion tolerant pulse oximetry in its patient monitoring products.

Masimo's SET (signal extraction technology) is designed to overcome the limitations of conventional pulse oximeters in accurately measuring arterial blood oxygen saturation levels and pulse rates in the presence of patient movement and low perfusion. Mindray has been the leader in the Chinese market for medium to low-priced monitors, and sees Masimo SET as an integral component for moving to the higher performance end of the market. "We are getting many requests from our customers for Masicmo SET pulse oximetry and we feel we need to now move quickly to make it available,” said Minghe Cheng, vice president and director of marketing for Mindray.

Mindray, a sino-US joint venture, is engaged in the development, manufacturing, marketing, and selling of electro-medical equipment in the patient-monitoring, laboratory instrument, and medical ultrasound fields. The company's products are accepted in more than 10,000 hospitals in China.
