An agreement to collaborate on the clinical investigation of image-guided neurosurgical applications has been announced by the International Neuroscience Institute (INI, Hannover, Germany) and Cbyon, Inc. (Mountain View, CA, USA).

Under the agreement, INI has been designated as the first Cbyon European "Center of Excellence” in recognition of its role in advancing the clinical relevance of surgical visualization and navigation. In return, Cybon has agreed to support INI with its future image guidance requirements. INI will also offer training in the utilization of Cbyon's volumetric surgical navigation system for various deep brain approaches.

INI is a leading world center for the treatment of diseases and disorders of the nervous system. A team of internationally renowned specialists there provides a full range of modern neuromedical techniques, including diagnostic and therapeutic neurosurgery, neuroradiotherapy, and neuroradiology. INI's special emphasis is on the interdisciplinary, surgical, and interventional radiologic treatment of vascular malformations and tumors of the central nervous system.

"Based on a thorough evaluation, we concluded that the Cbyon system incorporates the most scientifically advanced, clinically relevant technology available for image-guided minimally invasive neurosurgery,” said Professor Dr. Madjid Samii of INI. "To date, we have achieved excellent results with the system, and we look forward to conducting further clinical investigations.”
