An alliance that will include the development of up to seven new positron emission tomography (PET) centers throughout the UK has been announced by CTI Molecular Imaging, Inc. (Knoxville, TN, USA) and InHealth Group (High Wycombe, UK).

The new centers will provide state-of-the-art scanning facilities using PET and PET/CT (computed tomography) and will manufacture all PET tracers currently in use for both research and development purposes and clinical use. The centers will be established by working in close collaboration with the UK's major National Health Service trusts and academic institutions and will allow FDG (fluorodeoxyglucose) to be accessible to most acute hospitals in the UK. CTI is a leading supplier of products and services for PET. InHealth Group, the UK's leading provider of diagnostic and imaging services to the National Health Service, currently provides a range of scanning facilities and modalities as well as mobile services.

InHealth will utilize CTI's cyclotron and chemistry technology and expertise to develop new PET tracer production, pharmacy, and distribution facilities. The two companies also plan to develop a research center in the UK in collaboration with leading academic and research organizations for new PET tracer evaluation and new PET and PET/CT scanner development.
