A family of open magnetic resonance (MR) systems has received a Silver iF award from the International Forum Design GmbH (Hanover, Germany), according to an announcement by Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands; www.medical.philips.com). Posted on 30 Apr 2003
The Panorama family comprises three systems, the 0.23T, 0.6T, and 1.0T. The key design feature of each is the openness of the system, which improves patient comfort and ease of access. Open MR systems are used for a range of applications, including interventional and surgical procedures.
The award to Philips underscores the growing acceptance of open MR systems by hospitals in Europe, said Philips. Open systems help ease anxiety in claustrophobic, elderly, and larger patients as well as children, without compromising image acquisition speed and quality. The Panorama system allows constant eye contact between the patient and family members and the MR technician during the exam, further reducing patient anxiety.
An iF award in the product design category was also given to the MultiDiagnost Eleva multi-purpose x-ray system of Philips, for its unique geometric C-arm and tilting table that facilitate patient access, position, and general comfort. The winning Philips products are on display at the iF Design Exhibition in Hanover.
