An agreement to integrate the ImageChecker computer-aided-design (CAD) technology with the company's Lorad Selenia full-field digital mammography system has been announced by Hologic (Bedford, MA, USA) and R2 Technology, Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA, USA), which developed the ImageChecker CAD technology. The agreement also grants Hologic worldwide distribution rights for R2's digital and film-based mammography suite of products customized for the Selenia system.Posted on 19 Aug 2003
Under the terms of the agreement, R2, with assistance from Hologic, will customize its ImageChecker system for use with the Selenia system. Not only will Hologic have distribution rights to this customized system but also to R2 CAD products designed to be used with conventional film-based mammography systems that can be upgraded to digital mammography systems. The Selenia system is the only US-approved full-field digital mammography system using amorphous selenium, direct-ray conversion technology.
The ImageChecker is used by radiologists as a "second pair of eyes” when reading a mammogram. The technology uses computer algorithms to identify areas on a mammogram containing physical characteristics that may warrant a second review by the radiologist.
"Hologic's established base of screen-film mammography customers and its growing base of digital customers present a very exciting pathway for us to make this customized CAD product available to a growing base of users,” said Michael S. Klein, president and CEO of R2 Technology.
