An agreement to distribute two new computer-aided detection (CAD) technologies has been announced by GE Medical Systems (Waukesha, WI, USA) and CADx Systems, Inc. (Beavercreek, OH, USA).

The technologies, developed by CADx, are Second Look Digital and Second Look AD. Designed to help doctors detect breast cancer, both products are to be integrated with the Senographe 2000D full-field mammography system of GE, to be marketed by both GE and CADx. The Second Look products utilize software technology to highlight potential areas of concern, calling attention to subtle changes in tissue that may indicate the presence of cancer in the breast. After viewing a patient's mammogram, radiologists refer to the CAD results to assist their decision regarding the most appropriate course of treatment. The Second Look AD system has both analog and digital capabilities to provide greater flexibility for doctors and to provide smooth transition from film-based systems to full-field digital systems.

"We are excited to be taking another step toward providing healthcare professionals and patients with the most advanced technology available in breast imaging,” said Michelle Heying, general manager of mammography, GE Medical Systems.
