A technologically advanced version of the Powerheart automatic external defibrillator (AED) is targeted at users of life-saving equipment, such as hospital personnel, medical professionals, paramedic firefighters, and emergency medical technicians.

The new version, G4, features a color electrocardiogram (ECG) display, manual override capability, continuous ECG monitoring, multiple rescue data storage, comprehensive AED and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) voice prompts, infrared data transfer, and an optional rechargeable battery. The unit performs daily self-tests of battery, electronic systems, and disposable defibrillation pads as well as biphasic energy protocols and rhythm detection algorithm. Powerheart is the product of Cardiac Science (Irvine, CA, USA).

"We developed the G4 to meet market demand and fill the specific needs of paramedics, EMTs, physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals and are confident the G4 embodies all of the requested features for those customers,” said Raymond W. Cohen, chairman and CEO of Cardiac Science.

Cardiac Science also offers comprehensive AED/CPR training and AED program-management services that facilitate successful deployment.
