A new mobile health and wellness monitor allows users to monitor their pulse, view the results on a high-resolution screen on a mobile phone, and transmit the data to a server.Posted on 06 May 2004
The monitor creates a healthcare solution for the elderly, rehabilitation outpatients, and others for whom monitoring could be important anytime, any place, or anywhere. Called MedicTouch Pulse Meter, the system utilizes a Java technology-enabled mobile phone and transmits data to a Java-compliant server. Users connect the sensor to a hand, start the program on their mobile phone, and the pulse rate is displayed within seconds on the phone screen, which can be archived or customized for transmittal to a server. The monitor is based on Sun Microsystem's Java 2 platform, Micro Edition.
"The platform also allows users to stay connected with the world and monitor their health and wellness all on their mobile phone. In other words, the mobile phone becomes another extension of the human body. It only made sense to turn it into a health and wellness monitor,” said Dr. Eran Schenker, medical director of MedicTouch (Houston, TX, USA), which developed the new pulse-monitoring system.
