A diagnostic blood test that detects three important cardiac enzymes (troponin I, creatine kinase, and myoglobin) helps paramedics and emergency department doctors to quickly detect acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients with chest pain and start therapy.Posted on 30 Jan 2001
The test panel can diagnose ACS in three to five minutes. Combined with an electrocardiogram (ECG) and medical history, the test can help doctors to rule out ACS and identify patients who need immediate therapy. By testing for three enzymes, the test can detect myocardial damage whether a patient presents early or late after the onset of symptoms. The panel, called Cardiac Status, is the product of Spectral Diagnostics (Richmond, VA, USA).
"The quick diagnosis of chest pain allows emergency department physicians and cardiologists to immediately administer therapy, saving lives, time, and money,” said Dr. Shahriar Dadkhah, interventional cardiologist at St. Francis Hospital (Evanston, IL, USA).
