A new point-of-care (POC) blood gas analyzer is designed to increase simplicity and test reliability, and offers new supplementary services.

The analyzer, called ABL800 FLEX, can be configured to measure any combination of pH, blood gas, electrolyte, oximetry, and metabolite parameters with only 95 ul of blood. Windows XP software provides a user interface that can be customized and has only a few manual steps, making operation of the analyzer simple and intuitive.

Automated procedures make it easier to ensure regulatory compliance and data accuracy. Small capillary samples are often difficult specimens to handle, but by using Flexmode, the analyzer provides the user with the highest number of parameters reliably possible, minimizing the risk of losing a precious sample. The analyzer is the product of Radiometer (Copenhagen, Denmark).

The Audit Trail ensures a complete patient record and helps users comply with regulatory requirements by documenting changes made to patient results. Two supplementary services are Flexcare and Flexpac. Flexcare ensures analyzer uptime by running system checks via remote connection. Also, Radiometer's service organization pays regular online visits. With Flexpac, inventory management is reduced to a few orders, simplifying the ordering process and eliminating excess stock.
