An auto-adjusting sleep system for adults who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) makes breathing more comfortable and natural during sleep.

The BiPAP Auto, developed by Respironics (Murrysville, PA, USA), features Bi-Flex bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) technology that softens the airflow in inhalation and exhalation, providing increased pressure relief, thereby making breathing more comfortable and natural for the patient. Additionally, bi-level therapy with Bi-Flex has been shown to be easier for non-compliant patients to accept, even the most difficult patients.

The sleep system uses a multi-level algorithm that measures instances of flow limitation to make systematic, subtle changes in pressure and assesses the impact of these changes on the patient's breathing patterns. It can also determine how much of a response is necessary to eliminate events and position the patient with a more appropriate pressure, as well as compensate for elevated leak levels.

Additionally, the BiPAP Auto offers advanced reporting with Encore Pro SmartCard technology. This feature records detailed compliance and efficacy information giving doctors insight into a patient's therapy regimen. Data management is more efficient, and reports are easily accessible for reading and sharing among physicians/clinicians, homecare providers, and patients.

"We've promised our BiPAP users more choices when it comes to sleep therapy, and now we're delivering.” says Brian Bunofsky, product manager at Respironics. "With the BiPAP Auto, we're giving patients the only sleep system that offers Bi-Flex auto adjusting pressure technology, SmartCard capability, and advanced reporting--all at a competitive price for our customers,”
