A comprehensive management solution offers secure patient identity management in busy healthcare settings, reducing to a minimum the repetitive and time consuming process.Posted on 15 Oct 2007
The PatientSecure solution incorporates a biometric authentication sensor that uses near infrared light to capture the vein pattern in a patient's palm, providing a highly reliable and accurate form of authentication. The biometric sensor then converts the palm vein image into a digital record that is linked to a patient's medical records. An incorporated security feature protects the patient's identity from identity theft and insurance fraud, and ensures that each individual receives the proper medical care.
Using the Fujitsu (Tokyo, Japan) PalmSecure biometric palm scanner to scan a patient's palm, the system produces a unique biometric signature that is 100 times more unique than a fingerprint and more secure. The patient simply places their hand over the scanner and the patient's medical record is automatically brought up on the registrar's screen, without the need to exchange sensitive information. PatientSecure was developed by Fujitsu in collaboration with HT Systems (Tampa, FL, USA).
"By implementing PatientSecure, hospitals realize an immediate increase in staff efficiency and patient satisfaction. Registration and re-admittance times for patients are reduced five to ten fold. In addition, because the patient's biometric information is married to the patient's medical record, you can be certain that the right medical care is give to the right person,” said David Wiener, vice president of sales and marketing at HT Systems.
Biometric authentication is a method of authentication based on measurement of a biological or behavioral characteristic of the user. Examples include fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, retina recognition, facial recognition, signature dynamics, typing patterns, voice recognition, and others.
