A next-generation incubator combines proven performance with upgraded functionality, providing a better clinical workflow and an advanced microenvironment for newborns. Posted on 02 May 2011
The Lullaby Incubator XP is designed to manage the complex needs of fragile infants, allowing clinical staff to focus on direct patient care rather than on system operation. The incubator maintains a stable microenvironment using servo control systems that automatically adjust the oxygen and humidity outputs to remain at user-programmed levels. Caregivers can view skin, air, and set temperatures on the control panel, and relative humidity and other system parameters can be monitored and displayed at the push of a button. The system continues uninterrupted monitoring in the event of a power failure, with all functions available for 30 minutes.

The incubator can be equipped with an airflow limiting system to support oxygen delivery; when pure oxygen is being used, the fresh air intake automatically closes to maintain high oxygen concentrations. If the oxygen supply is interrupted for any reason, the incubator automatically allows fresh air in to avoid carbon dioxide (CO2) build-up in the infant compartment; an oxygen monitoring system provides a continuous display of oxygen levels.
The Lullaby is designed with six portholes enabling the infant to be reached from virtually any angle; a rear access door provides another means for immediate access. An elevating base allows easy adjustment of the height of the incubator to match that of the caregiver. A smooth, vibration-free mechanism eliminates awkward bending and reaching, operating quietly so that the baby is not disturbed. Other design features include a slide-out mattress tray, an adjustable tilt mechanism, a built-in X-ray cassette tray, and optional integrated in-bed scale.
A sturdy dovetail rail system allows for easy and flexible mounting of accessories, while an innovative tubing management arm and syringe holder gives an "extra hand” to keep all of the equipment tubes and wires out of the way and support syringe during gravity tube feeding process, respectively. Easily accessible drawers provide essential storage space for diapers, blankets, and other accessories. The Lullaby Incubator XP is a product of General Electric (GE) Healthcare (Chalfont St. Giles, United Kingdom).
