A novel anesthesiology gas delivery system module constantly measures end-tidal (Et) values and automatically adjusts the gas delivery and total flow to achieve and maintain set target values.Posted on 11 Jun 2012
Et Control is an optional upgrade gas delivery mode for the Aisys Carestation, a fully digital anesthesia delivery system that features a digital ventilator, a vaporizer, and gas delivery and data integration technologies. Using Et Control, clinicians set the target Et oxygen concentration (EtO2) and Et fraction of anesthetic agent (EtAA) values. The system then constantly monitors the values and automatically adjusts gas delivery and total flow to achieve and maintain the set target values. Intelligent inbuilt safeguards protect against over-delivery and under-delivery of agent, and hypoxia, while providing the clinician with peace of mind and total control at all times.

Among the benefits of the module is a level of precision that significantly reduces potential over-delivery of agents, as well as intelligent hypoxic guard that ensures alveolar oxygen is always above 25%, especially important during circle anesthesia. By automating EtO2 and EtAA regulation and monitoring, Et Control relieves the clinician of tasks that are not only tedious and time-consuming but also potentially distracting. Et Control also captures and stores patient data, and used in conjunction with data supplied by other elements of the Aisys Carestation, such as the digital ventilator, vaporizer, and gas mixing/delivery system, enables critical information to be compiled and transmitted, with built-in redundancies, to provide data continuity.
The Aisys Carestation combines sophisticated anesthesia therapy, advanced patient monitoring, clinical decision support tools, and information management systems into an interactive, knowledge-based system. Et Control and the Aisys Carestation are products of GE Healthcare (Chalfont St. Giles, United Kingdom). Existing Aisys Carestation customers can also use the module to exploit the tailored anesthesia capabilities, quickly and cost-effectively, without an equipment change.
The Aisys Carestation provides superior ventilation and a full range of vital signs monitoring, and accommodates a broad range of patients, from neonates to the morbidly obese. The integrated Advanced Breathing System (ABS) provides a low volume breathing circuit for fast-response times to changes in fresh gas composition and agent settings, specifically designed for low-flow anesthesia. The rising multibreath bellows also provides immediate visual feedback about the patient’s status.
