A new line of neonatal and pediatric tracheostomy tubes boost patient care and safety within the hospital and home care environments.

The updated Shiley portfolio of cuffless solutions offer an expanded range of tube sizes, down to a 2.5 mm inner diameter to accommodate the smallest patients. A soft, clear, flange facilitates easier examination of the underlying skin for infection, and eases trach-tube holder insertion. All tubes are manufactured with a medical grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC), with a citric-based, nonphthalate plasticizer, meeting the latest patient safety standards. The new solutions are manufactured with varying flange angles to help provide a better fit for infants and children as they grow.

Other features include a comfort recess designed to help reduce pressure on the patient’s skin, and a special flange recess to make insertion of a tape tie or tracheostomy tube holder simple, as well as reducing contact with the patient's skin. The Shiley portfolio of cuffless neonatal and pediatric tracheostomy tubes are products of Covidien (Dublin, Ireland), and have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“This new product portfolio represents an important step forward in the care of young patients dependent on tracheostomy tubes,” said Robert White, president of respiratory and monitoring solutions at Covidien. “For more than 40 years, clinicians and patients have trusted the Shiley brand for their tracheostomy needs. We are pleased to offer an expanded range of industry-leading solutions for meeting their needs across hospital and home care environments.”
