A next-generation glucometer uses a mobile app and cloud-based support for reliable diabetes data management and remote monitoring.

The Accu-Chek Guide blood glucose monitoring system includes a lancet, the glucometer, and test strips with a large, easy-edge dosing area. The strips are provided in a spill-resistant SmartPack vial, which helps users remove just one strip at a time, thus avoiding wastage or contamination. Blood glucose reading are analyzed on the device itself, with on-board pattern detection algorithms used to identify crests and troughs on the data chart and increase user awareness to the causes of blood glucose level fluctuations.

A Bluetooth smartphone app communicates with the glucometer and stores all the readings on the cloud via the Accu-Chek Connect diabetes management solution, which guarantees secure online data exchange and automatic logging. People with diabetes, caregivers, and healthcare providers can then share diabetes information virtually anywhere. The Accu-Chek Guide blood glucose monitoring system is a product of Roche Diagnostics (Basel, Switzerland). Initial launch will be in Denmark, Switzerland, and Australia.

“As the global leader in diabetes management we are dedicated to supporting people with diabetes, in thinking less about their daily therapy routines,” said Roland Diggelmann, CEO of Roche Diagnostics. “We are very excited to introduce this innovative system that simplifies blood glucose monitoring and improves the testing experience.”
