New AED with Audio Coaching

An automatic external defibrillator (AED) that features audio coaching is designed to help first responders treat people with sudden cardiac arrest more rapidly and effectively. The AED has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The chance of survival from cardiac arrest decreases 10% every minute that defibrillation is delayed, so a prompt response is crucial. The new AED, called AED Plus, offers a combination of simple step-by-step illustrations and audio coaching, making a medical crisis more manageable by laypeople. The AED is the product of Zoll Medical Corp. (Burlington, MA, USA). The company states that it is the first AED to target the large and growing first-responder and public-access market.

"We believe this defibrillator is so easy to use it will increase the availability of AEDs, the confidence of rescuers, and it will help assure that not a moment is lost in the rescue process,” said Richard A. Packer, president and CEO of Zoll.
