An oxygen manifold accessory enables doctors to provide seamless ventilation to patients during transport among different care areas in a hospital by maintaining an uninterrupted oxygen supply when changing oxygen sources.Posted on 11 Jul 2002
The manifold is designed for use with the Esprit ventilator of Respironics (Pittsburgh, PA, USA). The manifold allows the Esprit to simultaneously connect to two oxygen cylinders and one wall oxygen supply line. Each of these three oxygen inlets has a check valve that prevents pressure loss and leaks when disconnecting from the wall or cylinders. This enables quick, easy transfer between oxygen supplies without flow interruption, and facilities easy patient transportation within a facility.
In the event of a main source oxygen failure, the multisource manifold also functions as a backup to the primary oxygen source, since it can run on one cylinder while another is being replaced. "The oxygen manifold accessory adds a new level of versatility to the capabilities of the Esprit ventilation system by allowing the clinician the ability to maintain a consistent oxygen setting for the patient during a transport mode of operation,” said Mike Pietrenka, senior product manager for Respironics' Hospital Division.
