Designed to support the multivendor, multimodality information technology (IT) environment that characterizes cardiovascular labs, a new cardiovascular information system consolidates disparate patient data and makes it readily available in structured reports. The rapid access to information provided by the system could contribute to efficient clinical decision-making.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a leading provider of IT-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging solutions, is continually enhancing its multimodality, vendor-neutral Impax Cardiovascular (Impax CV) imaging and structured reporting solution.

Every day, over 5,000 clinicians use the Agfa HealthCare cardiovascular solution suite to diagnose and treat their patients in hospitals, private practices, and imaging centers. Impax CV's single point-of-access, single sign-on presents cardiology and radiology images for clinical correlation, providing fast access to a broad view of a patient's studies.

"Increased access to meaningful patient information is critical to advancing the cardiovascular diagnostic process,” stated Lisa Braunreuther, global cardiology business manager. "The goal of Agfa HealthCare Cardiovascular IT solutions is to speed clinicians' access to the tools they need to make a confident diagnosis.”

In addition to providing consolidated access to the cardiovascular patient record, the Agfa HealthCare Impax CV can serve as a central repository for the enormous files from imaging modalities, including noninvasive vascular (NIV), nuclear cardiology modalities, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, and ECG (electrocardiography) data management. The system's outbound reporting supports an efficient information flow from the imaging modalities and enterprise information systems such as hospital information systems (HIS), making report information available to billing and the electronic medical record (EMR).

"At Agfa HealthCare, we endeavor to help clinicians solve problems. Our technology delivers information that physicians need to solve diagnostic problems and provide better care for their patients,” said Ms. Braunreuther. "Agfa HealthCare's seamless integration of multimodality cardiovascular and radiology studies strives to meet and exceed the expectations of cardiac care customers. Through the scalability and flexibility of our solutions, Impax can continue to meet the needs of any healthcare facility's growth and expansion.”

Agfa's comprehensive cardiovascular system provides a balanced hospital enterprise- technology solution that meets equally the diverse requirements of cardiologists, administrators, and IT professionals.
