A medical device testing kit that features several different types of medical test equipment within a self contained, easy-to-transport package allows electrical safety testing of medical devices located at dozens of sites.

The Rigel Med-eKit features hand-held analyzers for electrical safety (Rigel 288), noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) and saturation of peripheral oxygen (SP02) simulators, a battery operated patient simulator, a defibrillator analyzer, ventilator tester, printer, barcode scanner, as well as asset management software, all housed within a compact and lightweight wheeled trolley case. Foam inserts safely hold the instrumentation in place and provide protection during transportation. The kit can be further customized to meet individual specifications, including the addition of a laptop, multimeter, temperature meter, and power analyzer.

The test information can be downloaded into easy to use asset management software; this enables the user to store and manage test results, email test certificates to clients, and schedule new work orders, which can then be fully uploaded into the Rigel 288's large onboard memory. The Med-eKit is a product of Rigel Medical (Bracken Hill, United Kingdom), and can be used for the rapid testing of electrical safety and operation of medical devices and equipment used in hospitals, operating theatres, and other facilities.

"The portability of the Med-eKits is very good, making it easy for engineers to get the right equipment from the vehicles to the test site,” said Brian Jolly, general manager of medical devices and wheelchair services for North Yorkshire and York Community and Mental Health Services (Clifton Moor, United Kingdom). "The instruments themselves are also very accurate, reliable and well designed. The fact that they all have the same keypad layout helps to make them very easy-to-use.”
