A hospital/clinical information system (HIS/CIS) enhances the quality of patient care and provides fast and complete availability of patients' histories, including all images and data. Accurate real-time patient data and histories will be available to authorized nursing, technical and medical staff, allowing for faster and more efficient diagnoses and treatments.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare information technology (IT) solutions, announced that it has signed an agreement with the Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg (ZOL-Eastern Limburg Hospital Group; Genk, Belgium) for the installation of its Orbis Care solution at all of its three sites. Oribs Care is Agfa HealthCare's nursing management system, providing workflow solutions for, among others, nursing documentation, planning of nursing activities, and automatically deriving nursing scores (VG-MZG). Orbis Care will replace ZOL's current paper-based workflow. Moreover, Orbis Care is fully integrated in Agfa HealthCare's electronic medical record (EMR) including prescription solutions for medication, lab tests, and radiology exams.

The Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg (ZOL) is a dynamic regional three-site hospital facility serving the eastern area of the Limburg province in Belgium. It was established in 1995 when five care facilities fused to form a regional care center. ZOL counts 814 beds and employs over 2500 staff members and 200 doctors. In addition to its regional function, ZOL also provides a number of specialized medical services, including heart surgery and neurosurgery facilities and expertise and a fertility center, among others.

"After being given an extensive demonstration on the system's capabilities, it was clear that Oribs was the solution of choice for ZOL,” stated Bart Claes, information and communications technology (ICT) manager, Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg. "We look forward to replacing our existing and rather complex paper-based order system with an efficient, streamlined, and effective solution that will benefit both staff, clinicians, and patients by enabling us to work more quickly, efficiently, and effectively.”

The system is currently installed in over 800 care facilities in Germany, France, and Belgium, counting over 500,000 daily users.

"The installation of Orbis at ZOL is an important milestone in the roll-out of one of Europe's leading HIS/CIS solutions,” stated Koen Van Damme, business unit manager Oribs, Agfa HealthCare, "Our proven solution is currently being used by over half a million medical specialists and care providers, and is the basis for enabling hospitals to integrate their information flows, align work processes and boost overall efficiencies. We look forward to a fruitful cooperation with ZOL Genk today and in the future.”
