Improved Software Enhances Medical Device Test Recording

A new version of a personal computer (PC)-based software provides enhanced electronic recording and management of medical device safety testing programs, using vital signs simulators as well as other instruments.

The Med-eBase V2 software, originally developed for equipment companies and service firms to verify the status of electrical medical equipment, is designed for use with a comprehensive range of medical device testers and advanced simulators. The new version enables the user to create custom test protocols quickly on a PC, before uploading them to the Rigel tester or simulator. The software is fully compatible with the Microsoft Vista and Windows 7 operating platforms, and features an enhanced interface to allow the user to manage easily the transfer of data using Bluetooth connectivity.

Test results can be stored on a local or remote database, depending on the needs of individual biomedical service departments, enabling quick and easy access for service technicians and engineers via PC. As well as all conventional equipment and test data, Med-eBase also has the facility to store functional and performance test data and incorporates additional comments to provide a comprehensive test database and asset management register for all medical equipment. This enables the software to be used to plan advance electrical maintenance schedules; retest information can also be uploaded from the PC-based program into the tester for fast preparation for retest sequences.

The new program is multilingual, uses SQL-compatible databases, and is therefore suitable for use by test engineers and medical facilities' managers that utilize advanced database structures to hold medical equipment records. The software can be networked and it facilitates a customizable test certificate generator to confirm that the medical device under test is safe for use. All tests are compliant with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60601-1 standards and the new IEC62353 in-service safety-testing standard. The Med-eBase V2 software is a product of Rigel Medical (Peterlee, United Kingdom).
