A novel virtual cadaver dissection application offers students the best way to practice on a cadaver, outside of the classroom.

The McGraw-Hill Education (Columbus, OH, USA) Anatomy & Physiology REVEALED application uses high-quality software to accurately replicate an authentic cadaver dissection experience. The app offers students a way to learn about the human body and function through five modules that grant virtual access to the skeletal and muscular systems; the nervous system; the cardiovascular, lymphatic and respiratory systems; the digestive, urinary, reproductive and endocrine systems; and body orientation, tissues, cells, and chemistry.

Key Features of the app include Dissection: Human cadaver photographs blended together with a state-of-the-art layering technique that allows “peeling away” layers of the human body to reveal more than 5,000 anatomical structures. Histology: Exploration of interactive slides to learn microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues. Imaging: Correlating dissected human anatomy with quality histology and radiologic images to explore tissues. Labeled X-ray, MRI, and CT images help to visualize internal structures using imaging techniques often encountered in clinical settings.
Videos and Animations: High quality videos and animations clarify anatomical relationships or explain key physiological processes. The videos demonstrate muscle actions, joint movements, and anatomical relationships, and the animations integrate physiologic function. After viewing an anatomical structure on a cadaver, a related video can immediately be viewed. Quizzing: Gauging proficiency by testing the ability to identify anatomical structures. Search: The app features a search engine to locate a listing of dissections, animations, radiological images, and self-test content related to that term. Pronunciation: Audio pronunciations help to build anatomical knowledge. Notes: Helps to create print and audio notes to personalize the content. Bookmarks: The app allows the user to bookmark sections for future reference.

The Anatomy & Physiology REVEALED app is available for the apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod, and can be downloaded from the iTunes store.
