Adaptive Radiation QA Software Gains Validation for NeoArc Treatments

Adaptive radiation therapy allows clinicians to adjust treatment plans to daily anatomical changes such as tumor shrinkage, weight loss, or organ movement, improving precision while limiting exposure to healthy tissue. As adaptive workflows expand, independent dose verification that maintains speed and efficiency has become increasingly important. A newly validated quality assurance solution now provides rapid, patient-specific checks for adapted treatments.

Sun Nuclear (Melbourne, FL, USA), a Mirion Medical company, has validated its AdaptCHECK software for interoperability with the new Accela radiotherapy system from Siemens Healthineers in collaboration with technical experts and clinical partners. Unveiled at the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting, Accela is described as the first software-driven delivery system engineered for NeoArc, or Dynamic Modulated Arc Therapy (DMAT), a technique designed to accelerate radiation therapy planning, delivery, and adaptation.

Built on the SunCHECK Patient workflow, AdaptCHECK provides quality assurance for adaptive radiation therapy through rapid, patient-specific dose verification. The software supports secondary dose calculations, plan-of-the-day recalculations, and log-file-based treatment monitoring to help keep adapted treatments on track without slowing clinical workflows. Its validation with Accela enables independent verification of adapted NeoArc treatment plans on the system.
