High-Resolution ECG Helps Diagnose Heart Attacks

Innovative technology permits clinicians to closely observe the QRS complex of an electrocardiogram (ECG), which holds clues on the patient’s cardiac condition.

The HyperQ High-Res AD-100 ECG system is an add-on, dual mode device that is based upon the functionalities of protocols using standard 12-lead stress ECG systems, while adding an enhanced ECG analysis that involves the acquisition of ECG signals at high frequencies, on top of standard ECG parameters that are read at low frequencies. Using HyperQ technology also prevents unnecessary exposure to radioactive or invasive procedures in patients that are inherent in other advanced ischemic heart disease (IHD) diagnosis systems.

A meticulous, intuitive user interface, together with state-of-the-art signal processing algorithms and comprehensive reports, provide a high-quality stress system with significantly enhanced diagnostic accuracy and levels of sensitivity and specificity, similar to those of radioactive procedures. And while stress test accuracy in women is notoriously low, the HyperQ diagnosis performs equally well in both sexes, adding enhanced diagnosis in women. The HyperQ High-Res AD-100 ECG system is a development of Biological Signal Processing (BSP; Tel Aviv, Israel), and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“The HyperQ system can be used during standard exercise stress testing and stress echocardiography, and features such as connectivity to automatic blood pressure measuring devices enhance the system’s functionality. The user-interface is intuitive and friendly,” said Jared Widell, MD, director of the stress echocardiography laboratory at Washington Hospital Center (Washington DC, USA).

The physiological significance of the high frequency components of the QRS complex was first described in the 1980’s. Since then, it has been extensively researched and clinically validated as an important diagnostic tool.
