In a transaction that extends the company's reach into the U.S. neonatal market, Draeger Medical AG &Co. KGaA (Lubeck, Germany) has announced the completion of its takeover of the infant care business called Air-Shields from Hill-Rom, Inc. (Batesville, IN, USA).

Air-Shields produces warming beds and incubators and accessories for the care of newborns and infants. The company had revenues of more than U.S.$50 million in 2003. Air-Shields was founded in 1939 and is now a leading marketer in the neonatal sector. The company's headquarters are in Hatboro (PA, USA). Air-Shields will be completely integrated into Draeger Medical, a joint venture company between Draegerwerk AG and Siemens AG.

"We will gain access to the important U.S. neonatal market and can bring enhanced innovation into this clinical area,” noted Dr. Wolfgang Reim, president and CEO of Draeger Medical. "We will be able to offer customers comprehensive solutions combined with patient monitoring and ventilation for neonates.”
