ResMed Acquires Dutch Distributor

In a move to expand the company's operations, ResMed, Inc. (San Diego, CA, USA) has acquired Resprecare Medical B.V. (The Netherlands), its exclusive distributor there. ResMed will sell its respiratory products directly to the Dutch market through ResMed Nederland B.V., the new name of the company. Rene van den Heuvel, formerly the principal owner of Resprecare, will serve as managing director of the company. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"This acquisition of our exclusive distributor fits our strategy for ongoing expansion of our international operations,” explained Peter C. Farrell, Ph.D., chairman and CEO of ResMed. "Most importantly, these acquisitions bring us closer to patients and allow us to better respond to their needs.”

ResMed is a leading manufacturer of medical equipment for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of sleep-disordered breathing, which is estimated to affect about 43 million people in the United States alone.
