Concord Medical Services (CMS; Beijing, China) has received government approval to establish a premium cancer hospital in the Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center (NHQMED; China). Posted on 28 Apr 2014
The Shanghai Concord Cancer Hospital will have 400 beds and will feature advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment equipment and multidiscipline systems. All required Chinese government approvals to develop the Shanghai Concord Cancer Hospital have been received, and CMS is currently in the process of finalizing the design and other preconstruction work. Construction of the new hospital is set to commence in the first half of 2015, and is expected to be completed within three years. CMS expects that it will become a leading cancer hospital in China and Asia.
As with other CMS centers, the Shanghai Concord Cancer Hospital is located on the premises of a hospital partner equipped with a primary unit of advanced radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging equipment. As such a partner, NHQMED will focus on providing high-end medical services and attracting diversified investments from international and private sources. The project will explore an integrated healthcare delivery model, including medical service, technical support, managerial collaboration, and supply-chain extension.
“As the most economically developed area in China, Shanghai possesses the most abundant medical and human resources. It is a very significant milestone for Concord Medical to build a leading cancer hospital in Shanghai,” said Jianyu Yang, MD, chairman and CEO of CMS. “After the construction of Shanghai Concord Cancer Hospital is completed, Concord Medical will become a leading hospital group, including cancer hospitals in Shanghai and Guangzhou.”
CMS operates the largest network of radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging centers in China, as measured by revenues and the number of centers in operation. The company operates a network of 139 centers with 75 hospital partners that spanned 52 cities and 24 provinces and administrative regions in China.
